Dr. Mary Beth Moenssen
Dr. Mary Beth Moenssen received her D.D.S. degree from the University of Michigan’s Dental School. She was elected president of her dental class during her senior year and graduated at the top of her class. Her additional three-year postgraduate orthodontic residency was also completed at the University of Michigan Dental School. She graduated with a Master of Science degree and is an orthodontic specialist. After graduation, Dr. Moenssen taught at the University of Michigan Dental School and treated orthodontic patients at a group practice in Westland, Michigan. Then in 1998 she opened her own private practice in her husband’s hometown of Dexter, which is still the only orthodontic practice in town.
Dr. Moenssen moved around a lot during her childhood because of her father’s career promotions, mostly between Michigan and Wisconsin. Her final move back to Michigan was at the beginning of her junior year in high school. She lived in Richmond and graduated valedictorian from her high school. She then attended the University of Michigan, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology before beginning her dental and orthodontic training. She and her husband, Rob Marshke, have been married for 24 years and have two beautiful boys, Ethan and Evan.
One of Dr. Moenssen’s greatest challenges, but also greatest gifts, is her older son Ethan who lives with autism. She devotes much of her spare time to his treatment with a team of therapists, educators and consultants. Ethan enjoys being a part of the Dexter school system and is touching the lives of everyone he meets, especially his fellow students. It’s because of her journey with Ethan that Dr. Moenssen’s understanding and compassion for those living with disabilities has grown. She is now sought out by many families to provide orthodontic treatment for their children with special needs.
Dr. Moenssen is also very active in the Dexter community. She is a proud sponsor of many local children programs, such as drama club, little league, baseball, basketball, football, hockey, equestrian, swimming and Cub scouts. She has also sponsored the Make-A-Wish foundation, Dexter Daze and the Dexter library. Dr. Moenssen and her husband are active board members on the Educational Foundation of Dexter (EFD), which raises money to help academic programs for the Dexter school system. She also donates an orthodontic “case” per year to both the EFD and to the Athletic Booster Club of Dexter (ABCD), providing orthodontic treatment for patients whose parents have donated the winning silent auction bid to these charitable organizations.
Dr. Moenssen has a special interest in sports. She is an avid runner, completing several marathons with her sister at such places as Walt Disney World and Chicago. She participated in the “Goofy Challenge” in January 2011, which is a 39.3 mile run held at Walt Disney World.
Dr. Moenssen continuously strives to provide the highest quality orthodontic care available. She stays up-to-date on the latest dental technology with combined memberships in such professional organizations, such as the American Association of Orthodontists and Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists, organizations that are limited to only orthodontic specialists. She is also a member of the American Dental Association and Michigan Dental Association.
