Dexter Orthodontics: Our Dexter Office

18

If you live in Dexter, your orthodontist can be just a few minutes from home. This page covers what local families usually want to know first: where our office is, when it's open, and how orthodontic care lines up with your child's years in the Dexter schools.

At Dexter Orthodontics, Dr. Mary Beth Moenssen and Dr. Brandon Shoukri see patients at our office on Dan Hoey Road, about 4 minutes from downtown Dexter. Whether you're coming from town, from one of the surrounding townships, or from farther out, we're glad to be your neighbors.

Finding Our Dexter Office

Our office is at 7200 Dan Hoey Road, Suite B, Dexter, MI 48130, and you can reach us at (734) 426-5220. From the center of town it's about 1 mile, roughly a 4-minute drive without traffic: follow Ann Arbor Street southeast out of downtown, where it becomes Dexter-Ann Arbor Road, and our street, Dan Hoey Road, is a short way down. Your map app may suggest a slightly different route.

We welcome families from the townships around Dexter, too. From the center of Webster Township it's about 7 miles, roughly 12 minutes, and from the center of Lima Township it's also about 7 miles, roughly 12 minutes, without traffic.

Dexter Schools, Grade by Grade

The Dexter Community Schools divide the school years into clear stages, and each stage lines up with a different moment in orthodontic care. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check-up by age 7. Here is how that timeline tends to fit the district's schools that serve children ages 7 and up:

  • Dexter Early Elementary Complex (Young 5s to 2nd grade): Home to the Anchor and Beacon wings on Dan Hoey Road, the same road as our office. Second graders are often 7 or 8, a natural time for a first check-up.
  • Wylie Elementary (grades 3 to 4): Baby teeth are still coming out, and early treatment, when a child needs it, often starts around this age.
  • Creekside Intermediate School (grades 5 to 6): More permanent teeth arrive during these years, so this is when many families begin asking about braces or Invisalign.
  • Mill Creek Middle School (grades 7 to 8): With most permanent teeth in place, middle school is a common time to begin treatment.
  • Dexter High School (grades 9 to 12): Many students finish treatment and move into retainers here, and others begin comprehensive care.

Dexter International Academy is the district's online option for Pre-K through high school, including homeschool and off-campus students, and those students are welcome at our office, too. Each of the district's school buildings posts its calendar online, so it's easy to line up visits with no-school days. When you come in, we'll explain how often appointments are likely to be so you can plan around school, sports, and music schedules.

Treatment Options for Dexter Families

Every family starts from a different place. Some children benefit from Phase 1 Treatment while they're still growing, and others simply need us to watch as their teeth come in. Teens and adults can choose between Braces and Invisalign, and we'll explain the reasoning behind our recommendation at your visit.

Part of the Dexter Community

Dexter is where we work, and it keeps a full calendar all year. The Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce hosts community events including the Dexter Summer Festival, Music in the Park, Light Up Dexter, and the Dexter Ice Fest, and its website is a good place to check what's coming up.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

A first visit with us is a complimentary consultation, and there's no obligation to start treatment. We'll do a full exam, talk through whether treatment is recommended, and give you a cost estimate if it is. The American Association of Orthodontists describes a similar flow in its guide to the first orthodontic appointment: paperwork, an exam, a discussion of your options, a treatment plan, and a conversation about cost and scheduling.

In many cases we use 3D Scanning instead of impression trays, and our team can walk you through Finance & Insurance before you decide anything. Ready to talk?
